The Climate

The Climate

di Marco Panerai

The climate of the Aeolian archipelago is particularly mild, influenced not only by the latitude and the geographical position but also from the presence of the sea that develops an important mild action. Rain is more abundant in the autumn and winter period, while it is rather scarce during the summer season.
The average of the annual temperature is of 18.3° Cs degrees with the minimum monthly average in January (12.2° Cs) and the highest in August (27.2° Cs). The annual excursion (13.5° Cs) is one of the lowest of Italy.
The general average of the precipitations for the archipelago is around the 650 mm annual of rain, the snowy ones are very rare. The annual average of humidity is of 71%
, with minimum values in August (69%) and maximum in May (73%). During the summer there is a notable deposit of night time dew, especially in absence of wind, that brings an additional source of damp to the vegetation.
The predominant winds result those coming from northwest (mistral), sometimes also very strong; a good percentage is also represented by the winds coming from southeast (scirocco).
The Aeolian Islands have a moderate warm climate, typical of the centre-Mediterranean zones.
A climate which is surely favourable to the tourist development and the local typical crops.
